Create or Import a New Grower/Farm/Field

There are many options for creating a new Grower, Farm, or Field in PCT Agcloud, including adding new entities from scratch, importing from shapefiles, or importing from an integration partner. The videos and article below will show the various options available.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Create a new Grower/Farm/Field from scratch:

  • Grower

To create a new Grower from scratch, open the Grower Editor dropdown in the Setup tool. Then click the 'Add' button.

Then, enter the Grower name and click 'Add Grower'.

  • Farm

To create a new Farm from scratch, first select the Grower that the Farm will be located under in the GFF tree.

Then, open the Farm Editor dropdown and click the 'Add' button.

Enter the Farm name and click 'Add Farm'.

  • Field

To create a new Field from scratch, first select the Grower and Farm that the Field will be located under in the GFF tree.

Then, open the Field Editor dropdown and click the 'Add' button.

Enter the Field name and click 'Add field boundaries'.

To add a polygon, click 'Add external/internal polygon' and draw in the polygon by clicking in the map. Then click save.

To add a pivot, click 'Add pivot circle' and position the pivot by clicking and dragging the pivot center or by entering the lat/lon. Enter the radius and adjust the shape by moving the vertices. Then click 'OK'.

-Note: Vertices can be deleted for both polygons and pivots by right-clicking on them.

Import a new Grower/Farm/Field from shapefiles:

There are slight differences between the two options for importing boundary shapefiles. The drag-and-drop option requires a Grower to be already present. The import window option allows multiple files to be imported at once and for new Growers to be created from the info contained within the file. The drag-and-drop option provides the ability to select/deselect fields, view boundaries, merge/split boundaries, and rename Farms and Fields. The import window option does not provide these abilities. In short, if you have a large import that requires little to no editing, the import window option is best. If you have a smaller import that requires editing, the drag-and-drop option is best.

  • Add shapefiles in the import window

This process can be done in the Setup tool or the View tool.

In the Setup tool, under the Field Editor dropdown, click the 'Import/Upload fields' button.

In the View tool, in the Right-Click Menu, click the 'Setup' dropdown button and select 'from Shapes'.

Select the import level.

-If the imported file contains a full Grower/Farm/Field structure that you would like to bring over, select the 'Dealer' import level.

-To save the Farms and Fields in the file under an existing Grower, select the 'Grower' level. The Grower that the data will be imported under must be selected in the GFF tree before opening the import window.

-To save the Fields in the file under an existing Grower and Farm, select the 'Farm' level and choose the desired Farm from the 'Farm' dropdown. Again, the Grower that the Fields will be imported to must be selected in the GFF tree before opening the import window.

Add the file(s) and click 'Import'.

  • Drag-and-drop shapefiles

In the Setup tool, drag-and-drop the file to the 'Drag and drop boundary files here' box.

Select the Fields to import.

If Farm and Field names are included in the file, they will be automatically filled in the boxes. These can both be edited manually, or existing Farms can be selected.

If there are multiple polygons for a single Field boundary, they can be split into separate boundaries.

Fields can be merged by selecting them and clicking the 'Merge fields' button.

To zoom to a specific field in the map, click the 'Fit field' button.

To zoom the map to all fields, click the 'Fit all' button.

When finished, click 'Import'.
