DO NOT USE crop removal formulas from countries other than your own! It is not only the units of measurement that may be different between countries, but also the definition P and K Removal. Some countries calculate P removal based on the mass of elemental P removed, while other countries calculate P Removal based on the mass of P2O5. Similar differences also exist with elemental K and K2O. Using the wrong formula will produce differences in the removal calculations of 44% for P and 82% for K, and these errors will be carried through to nutrient use efficiency and nutrient replacement calculations.
These crop removal formulas are a great starting point to better understand variation in nutrient use and efficiency. However, the formulas assume a uniform nutrient concentration and moisture content of the grain, both of which may vary greatly. Improved accuracy can be achieved using our Protein Pro product.
